Equity Bank has enjoyed strong ratings both locally and internationally. A recent survey conducted by Market Intelligence ranked Equity Bank as the third best bank in Kenya, the best bank in retail banking and the fastest growing bank. “For a new comer Equity Bank, to rank in 3rd position, is obviously unprecedented, but the Bank, having converted from a building society to a commercial bank seem posed for greater things judging by its solid capital, growing customer base and good management”. Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) rated Equity Bank as the best in Corporate Planning Management in the recently concluded Company of the Year Awards (COYA). Global Credit Rating, Planet Finance and MicroRate of South Africa have rated Equity Bank.

 
 

Rating

Equity Bank was voted the Best Bank in Kenya during the 2008 Renaissance Capital Awards in a survey benchmarked against a series of twelve parameters. Equity Bank moved a step up from the 2007 rating to claim first position in a survey that involved 41 commercial banks and two non-bank financial institutions. The indicators are the standard universal measures used by rating agencies to grade banks.

Rating

Best Microfinance Bank in Africa. During the annual African Bankers Awards ceremony held in Washington DC, (USA) Equity was voted the best microfinance bank in Africa.

Equity was cited as a bank that had contributed most to fighting poverty in Africa. The awards recognize among other factors, achievements, record earnings, innovative practices and commitment by financial institutions to corporate social responsibility and gender equality.

Interpretation

GCR upgraded Equity Bank's long term domestic Kshs currency rating to A+ (single A plus) from A, while short term rating was upgraded to A1 from A1- previously.
